Whitmore, 28th
Feb, Salisbury Art Centre Support: One Mile Standstill, 3 Date Theory, Foiled
First up were One Mile Standstill, who although really aren't my cup of
tea (heavy, metal etc) , were obviously really night and showed a lot of
skill.
I'm all for encouraging young, local bands, seeing as I guess they are
the future bands of the scene. But, 3 Date Theory are complete and utter
shite. Their set is messy, out of tune, and their levels are all wrong.
I've been told that their not all that bad on CD, but live there's huge
room for improvement. Their unfortunately bad set is probably down to
the fact that this is only their 3rd or so gig, and with out sounding
condescending, a word of advice lads - practice, practice and more
practice is what you need before you do another gig - good first
impressions are a must.
Foiled are up next, another local(ish) band, and were fantastic - very
tight, with great vocals and they received a great reception from the
crowd. I saw Foiled a few times a couple of years back, although at 15
you don't really appreciate the music!
The whole crowd were obviously glad to see Whitmore back their hometown,
giving them an overwhelming reception. Since the huge success of their
'Golfing On The Moon' tour, which they co-headlined with 4 Ft Fingers,
and subsequently scoring a number 1 with the video for Alison on P-rock
TV, they had more fans than ever. Playing a blend of old and new songs,
mainly taken from their album 'Smoke The Roach', along with some new
material that's set to be on their next album. Whitmore's blend of ska/punk
with a shot of reggae thrown in for easy skanin, really gets the crowd
going. It's shocking how 3 guys can produce such a bombardment of sound!
This spring sees Whitmore back on tour, with support from Irish punkers
Mixtwitch, Spankboy and Graveltrap. Make sure you don't miss them!
