Smoke The Roach,
Whitmore's first full length album, their latest release on Moon Ska
Europe, has received some really good reviews in Kerrang and Big
Cheese Magazine - and I can see why. Whitmore play a great blend of
Ska, punk with a bit of reggae thrown in. The songs have so much
power and speed, with some really catchy melodies you can't help
but like them . All the songs are packed full of awesome riffs with
some great vocals by Robb, who has a voice really
suited to Whitmore's style - its rough around the edges, but really
good for harmonies with bassist Glenn.
This album has a great mix of songs - 'Listed' is an ace song;
a great mix of ska and reggae. Similarly, 'Tell You Twice', one of
my favourites, has a
really good ska beat to it. The more melodic punk songs -
like 'Closing Doors ' - which, despite the references to
Sept 11th, which lost them 5*'s in Big Cheese, is still an awesome
song. The best known song on here has to be 'Alison' - known for the
X-rated video that got them the number 1 spot on the P-Rock
charts.
All the songs on here are really powerful and although most of them
seem to be about ganja and women, they still kick copious amounts of
fat white ass. Whitmore are coming to be one of the biggest bands on the UK live circuit,
which they really deserve. These guys are even better live than
on CD - you can catch Whitmore on the 'Over the Moon Tour' with Mixtwitch,
Spankboy,
and Graveltrap over April and may - tour dates here
