Mixtwitch - 'Smile For The Money Shot'
Moon Ska Europe
MOONCD064

Mixtwitch, currently signed to Moon Ska Europe, have been described as being 'more Fat Wreck then Moon ska', so these guys are sure to be good. They don't play anything much different to most pop/punk/ska bands, but they do it with a hell of a lot more energy, passion and fun than the rest - making these guys stand out from the crowd.

The album 'Smile For The Money Shot', however lame the cover (sorry guys) is really fucking good. It's packed full of riffs, great bass lines, powerful vocals, and they have one of the most talented drummers I have heard for a long time - Dave's fast,  enthusiastic drumming really makes these songs what they are. The album has variety between the songs - there's some ska tinged songs, along with tracks with a more definitive punk edge to them. However embarrassing it is to admit it, you really cant help wanting to skank round the room when you listen to this; all the songs are bouncy and full of energy with some hook laden lyrics - it's hard not to like them.

My personal favourites on this album are 'Let them Wait', 'Gifted', and 'Continue the Research'. I seemed to have developed quite a soft spot for the joke song stuck onto the end of the album which is a re-recording of 'Andorra's Box' from their first album 'Funny Because its True'.

Compared to the first album, 'Smile For The Money Shot' has a more mature sound - and it's also a hell of a lot better recorded. If you get a chance to see Mixtwitch live, go for it, this albums a winner!
