SONIC BOOM SIX appeared on the Manchester punk scene in April 2002 and
set about establishing a loyal local following with their own Sonic
Boom Collective gigs and supports with the likes of Capdown, Jesse
James, Lightyear and Shootin Goon.
It is fiendishly difficult to
convey their sound through words alone. 'Miss Dynamite fronting
Capdown' has been one of the closest attempts to nail it; the truth is
that SB6 are a group in the tradition of UK punk bands such as The
Specials, The Clash and King Prawn that push the musical envelope by
mixing contemporary underground sounds of the UK with a rocking live
show. Sonic Boom Six's genre-terrorism attacks the urban sounds of
ragga, hip-hop, bhangra and jungle, adds a blast of dub and reggae and
detonates with a heavy helping of hardcore punk rock.
Their self-titled demo was
recorded with Jerry 'Dutchmaster' Melchers (Capdown, King Prawn) and
self-released in October 2002. To support the record, SB6 toured the
UK with New York ska veterans The Toasters, London Wildstyle merchants
King Prawn, Widnes Art Wizards Zen Baseballbat as well as touring with
(and appearing as the backing band!) with NYC ragga-core exponent
Coolie Ranx (ex-Pilfers).
The debut EP 'Sonic Boom
Six: The Turbo EP' is dropping in September 2003 on Moonska Europe
just in time for the label's infamous UK tour. At the production helm
is guitar effects record-breaker, former Skunk Anansie axeman and all
round London music legend, Ace.
