'Set
it off' kicks straight in with a great powerful, well driven horn and
guitar intro. Tim's vocals give the song a great reggae vibe, with
good backing vocals from John, Rick and Paul which provide great
harmonies and adds depth to the overall sound. This track has a really
cool bouncy feel to it - great for getting the crowd moving.
Re-recorded from their debut album, 'Perfect Day' is a slightly slower
track with very light summery feel to it, with great bouncy horn
solos. With fantastic vocals, it's a perfect 'sing-a-long'
track'.
Next up, Spankboy classic, 'Tongue Tied' is a fantastic chilled out,
but at the same time up beat track with very fast, speedy riffs and a
great bass line. 'Summer Nights' is another new song from the boys, with a very cool,
heavy intro followed up by the familiar territory of loud horns, and
catchy vocals, which yet again give a great injection of reggae to the
track.
Spankboy fail to play the same generic style as every other ska/punk
band in the UK right now - they add something special to each of their
tracks, giving them a definitive edge that makes you sit up and
listen. With powerful riffs, great harmonised choruses with Tim's
reggae influence they provide something for a wide range of listeners.
A special mention must go out to Paul for his fantastic guitar solos -
who'd have thought this boy loved Atomic Kitten?! Spankboy are even
better live than they are on CD, and are constantly touring up and
down the country so are hard to miss.
