#King Sativa

#KINGSATIVA were formed in 1996 by Cheeko with Derek and Anto, who parted company with the mighty Dublin Gangsters to pursue a more reggae approach to writing. With many band members coming and going over the next few years, they won 1999's Heineken Green Energy New Band Competition with Damien Clabby on guitar plus a mini disc doing keyboard duties. Slapper O'Brien wormed his way into percussion duties after blagging roadie work from them earlier in the year. #King Sativa started recording in Feb 2000, courtesy of 20 days the Heineken people gave them, with Eddie Lewis and Niall Leacy recording and mixing for them. Toby Millie (keyboards) came and went during the recording of their CD 'We did then', so the search was on for a new keys player. Enter Graham who was doing tape op for them and suggested his mate Doctor Richard Broderick-Hayes. Just as the band was taking proper shape since they started, guitarist Damien wanted out, and Kevin Gleeson from Zero stepped in for a while, with Dan Rodgers filling in for him when he left for sunnier climates. Damien yo-yo'd back in and out to play (with Dan also) in the Olympia, Dublin, with The Wailers in May 2001. 'We did then' was finally released on their own imprint in Jan 2002. After a well received tour of Bosnia in April 2002, Damien finally left to be replaced by Graham. 2002 has seen the band play across the waters, a weekend in North Wales in October and a 12 day tour of Holland at the start of November, taking in Appeldoorn, Haarlem, Hengelo and Amsterdam. July '02 saw them play once again with the legendary Wailers, and a t present they're recording our second LP in Johnaton Yeates studio, Banned Productions, Donaghmede. The first single hopefully will be 'pop song' if they can get the funds to push it out (painfull thing these releases...) 2003 will see a wind down in 'Catch a Fire' operations and more attention to the #kingsativa side of things. a full Irish and UK tour is planned for this Autumn...
