Golfing on the moon tour, 1st Oct, Salisbury Black Pig

Line Up: Gash, Mixtwitch, 4ft Fingers, Whitmore

Catching only the last 2 songs of Gash due to long interviews with the other bands, from this quick taster, Golf Records’ Gash were pretty good, their blend of fast melodic punk rock was clearly impressing the crowd…can’t say much more than that as I didn’t see enough of the set…

Recently signed to Moon Ska Europe, Irelands very own Mixtwitch were up next, and after impressing the Dublin boys with my girl on girl kissing skills in the bar, they were due to call us up sometime in the set for some more onstage action. They kicked off their set with some great ska punk with a wee bit of NOFX stylee thrown in… and having not heard them before I thought they were pretty damn good and had people skanking in no time. Cags had a voice that really suited their style of music, seeming to loose his Dublin accent, and about 3 songs in he decided it was time to get Jen and I onto the stage for a bit of a sesh, which all of the blokes in the room seemed to thoroughly enjoy. Photos of that exact moment can be found here. After completing their memorable set with great style, I headed straight off to harass their bass player for his plec and go buy their newly released album, ‘Smile For The Money Shot’!

Unfortunately I then missed 4ft fingers set, as I was in the bar being signed by Mixtwitch (on stomach, boobs, etc) and chatting up their very cute bassist, Ronan. (Which worked, might I add). We got to Whitmore’s headlining set about half way through, and their ska punk style with great riffs and vocals grabbed me straight away as being really good. One thing that lets quite a few band down is lack of audience interaction, but, with Salisbury being their home turf (sort of!) they were well in there, and everyone was enthused with their yay-were-finally-free-of-uncle-brian-who-suck-copious-amounts-of-dick style! [Disclaimer: that was written by my friend Jen, I love Uncle Brian, I really, really do]. Anyway, they had the crowd jumping around like nobody’s business, and for their song ‘Alison’ -off there recently released ‘Smoke the Roach Album’, also out on Moon Ska Europe- the lovely Irish bassist Ronan jumped up on stage to sing with them, which excited the crowd even more.

It was a great gig tonight, and proceeded to get even greater with my nicely timed pull later. Hurrah!
