Having repeatedly seen Spankboy live, I was quite optimistic about
this 10 debut CD, and I wasn't disappointed. Most of the tracks on
here I'd heard live, so I fairly familiar with them anyway.
All of the songs are as catchy as hell - which can be quite
frustrating, as Tim (vocals) can sing so damn fast that you can
hardly keep up with it - but you try, nonetheless.
The first thing I heard as I pressed play was a woman's voice -
'I've been a very bad bad girl, please spank me', followed by a
great drum intro and guitar riff. I was impressed already. The first
track, 'Easy' is a great song (especially after the intro) to get
you bouncing around in no time, and have you repeatedly singing the
chorus lines. The other tracks are much the same - fun, catchy,
infectious with good vocals, with 'Xr3i' 'Better Things' and 'Easy'
being my personal favourites, all with really good lyrics that I'm
actually capable of 'singing' along to.
Spankboy do a great
blend of Ska punk pop with calypso style, and this CD is cool and
really enjoyable, the songs are just as good on CD as they are
live...buy it, go see them, stalk them.
